SHARE Heat Pump Program
SHARE Heat Pump Program — California
SHARE (Smart Home Assets for Reliability and Efficiency) is a new program from PG&E, Google, and Rewiring America that provides large discounts on qualifying battery-enabled heat pumps and other home energy equipment. The program is designed to reduce peak electricity demand while helping homeowners upgrade to more efficient HVAC equipment.
- Heat pump incentive: $5,000 off a qualifying Carrier Performance Series Variable-Speed Heat Pump with EnerSync.
- Early-adopter incentive: The first 25 qualifying households can receive $10,000 off.
- The heat pump includes energy-storage technology that can shift HVAC electricity use during periods of high grid demand without changing the homeowner’s thermostat setting.
- The program is expected to begin enrolling eligible households in fall 2026 and continue through 2027.
- Eligibility is address-specific, so simply living within an eligible county does not guarantee participation.
Where is SHARE available in California?
At launch, SHARE is not available statewide. It is limited to qualifying addresses in:
- Alameda County
- Santa Clara County
The official program specifically states that participating homes must be at an eligible address within those two counties.
That means communities potentially within the program area include places such as Oakland, Fremont, Hayward, Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, San Leandro, Berkeley and other Alameda County communities, as well as San Jose and surrounding Santa Clara County communities.
Basic homeowner eligibility
A homeowner may qualify if they:
- Own a single-family home, townhome, or 2–4 unit property
- Have lived in the home for at least one year
- Have central air conditioning
- Do not have rooftop solar
- Do not have a whole-home battery
- Are not currently enrolled in another demand-response program that shifts electricity use
- Live at an eligible Alameda or Santa Clara County address
